Attachment has been seen as a barrier to ethical behaviour. This seems like a problem to us but it can be beneficial because it prevents bias. Lenina is a character who is introduced as almost having a personal identity. Introduced with her relationship with henry foster as being not proper. Introduced wearing green gamma colours even though she is a beta. However, she is focused on soma and is extremely conditioned. Bernard is extremely grouchy and is very against the society, but it is because he isn"t part of it. In his relationship with lenina, he has very clear ideas on how their relationship is going to go. Wants to impose his own countercultural ideas on her. Turns off the radio, tries to get her to nature, shuts down all of her conditioned phrases. Lenina and bernard are both completely conventional and not as against society as we thought they were.
