She keeps projecting failure onto her husband but she is a failure too. There is a voice of debt in the house that must be appeased in the house. Not necessarily money; you can lose money if you"re rich. Nonsensical no way you can govern luck. Paul says he is lucky; maybe if he becomes/says he is lucky he will make his mother happy and then his mother will love him. If he rides the rocking horse enough, he will discover how he will become lucky.
