Earth Sciences 2240F/G Lecture Notes - Lecture 16: Magma Chamber, Rock Records, Basalt
Document Summary
In this section of the course, we need to study events in specific time periods and compare them with events of other times so time is hugely important. Figure 1 presents 4 stacks" of time periods side by side, with today at top left and the formation of the earth at bottom right. Unless you expand some sections greatly, the font size of some names is impossible to read. I"ve chosen to use a vertical scale in figure 2 to simplify things. I suggest you make a copy of figure 2 for reference throughout this unit. Species: a group of organisms capable of interbreeding to produce fertile offspring, and separated from other such groups with which interbreeding does not normally occur. Biodiversity: the variation of life forms within a given ecosystem or even on the entire earth. Biodiversity is often quoted in a discussion of the health of an ecosystem.
