Document Summary
Modern doomsday scenarios: global catastrophe at the movies. Made to entertain, although most are based on a grain of truth. There are many possible scenarios for global catastrophe. Examples: sudbury basin and the chicxulub crater in mexico. Was not large enough to affect the global population, it emphasizes the possibility of impact by large objects. In 1908, a mysterious explosion occurred in the skies over siberia. Seismic vibrations were recorded as far as 100km away from ground zero. At 400-500km, observers reported deafening bangs and a fiery cloud. At 170 km from explosion, the object was seen in the cloudless, daytime sky looked like a fireball bringing thunderous noises. 60km people were thrown to the ground or knocked unconscious; windows were broken. Closest observers were reindeer herders, asleep in their tents 30km from the site they were blown into the air and knocked unconscious one man died.
