Pythagorus: thought earth stationary in space surrounded by everything else and rotated around the earth. Plato: student of aristotle, didn"t produce anything useful. Ptolemy: but earth back in the centre, this model latest for awhile. Copernicus: sun in centre, earth rotate around on axis per day. Kepler: developed 3 laws which define the geometry of planets moving about stars. Galileo galilei: first to observe planets through telescope by improving lense. Perihelon: point of nearst approach of planet to sun. Aphelion: point of greatest separation: sun made out of gas that gets denser as move to centre. Photosphere: visible outer layer represents depth w/in that gas at which we can see no deeper toward the core. Chromosphere: layer of gas that surrounds photosphere, layer of gas that extends up/away from photosphere. Corona: chromosphere merges with, usually can"t see cause the brightness of photosphere but able to we during solar eclipse. Astronomical unit (au): mean average distance b/w sun and earth.
