Sun is considered a main sequence star (on the small side: still brighter than approx. 85% of other stars in the milky way galaxy. The anatomy of the sun: there is no surface of the sun, photosphere. It is made of gas that becomes denser as you move toward the centre of the sun: visible outer layer of the sun, reps. The depth within the gas which we can"t see any deeper toward the core. Its atmosphere changes from transparent to opaque after a few hundred km: making it appear as if there is a distinct boundary- but there is not. Size of the sun is typically meaning the size of the region surrounded by the photosphere: photosphere layer is approx. 2500 km thick of gases: also known as the chromosphere.
