Model is a simplified representation of a system intended to promote understanding of the real system. Abstraction that should have enough detail to represent the aspects of the system most important for promoting understanding but not too much detail to make too complex and ruin understanding. Physical systems represented with a physical or conceptual model. Conceptual systems represented by physical models and conceptual models. Building physical models is more time and resource intensive. Simulation is an imitation of the workings and behaviour of a real world system performed by manipulating a model over time. Model represents the system and the simulation imitates how the system works over time: simplification of the real world system. Details unnecessary for the simulation are omitted. Is an abstraction: the behaviour of the simulation changes only in response to specific events, models changes to a system resulting from a finite number of events distributed over time.
