Especially common in young children as they are starting to produce sentences. When the forward flow of speech is interrupted abnormally by repetitions or prolongations of a sound, syllable, or articulatory posture, or by avoidance or struggle reactions. Disorders in the rhythm of speech, in which the individual knows precisely what he/she wishes to say, but at the same time, is unable to say it because of an involuntary, repetitive prolongation or cessation of sound.
