Never had a fortification wall like jericho. Houses and public buildings of varied plans and materials and open spaces. Located 60km south of diyarbakir in south-eastern turkey on a stream of the tigris river that flowed by the foothills of the taurus mountains. Largest area of neolithic settlement as yet exposed by archeological record: 8000m2. The ppn (ppna + ppnb)- phase 1 consisted of 6 sub phases each named after its characteristic architectural type. Subphase 1: round building village contained round houses made of wattle-and-daub, twigs/branches, mud, straw, grass; floors were sunk below ground level. Subphase 2: grill plan rectangular houses, flooring made of twigs/branches covered with lime and clay. Subphase 3: channeled building house foundations were filled in. The village grew larger in area but with houses scattered. An open space plaza was discovered on the eastern edge of the settlement. Subphase 4: cobble-paved building houses protected from groundwater by cobble fill instead of drainage channels (subphase 3).
