Alex arrives in thebes in 335, asks for peace; called it a misunderstanding . Thebans don"t back down, attack his outposts. Decides to make an example of the thebans. Thebans decide to rally all of alex"s opposition, but alex slowly breaks through. Alex had summoned all of thebe"s enemies. Despite alex"s pacifist views, wanted thebes destroyed. Did not wish to sell greeks into slavery. Demanded the surrender of 10 leading thebans. Alex tried to appease them, let them off easy to try to get access to their ships.
