Sulla when marius won the election, sulla went into the city with his army, and ran marius (would have been slaughtered had they found him) out of the city, and then reheld the election. Sulla goes east, marches on rome a 2nd time. When sulla left, marius went back into the city and killed many of sulla"s supporters. Sulla then offered peace to mithridates and store as much loot as possible and then recruited many people to fight for him on his march back to rome. During this marius was doing the same thing in the city. Marius dies of old age before sulla arrives at the city. As sulla approaches the city a bunch of italians come to oppose sulla, it was a close battle but sulla did win. The first thing he did after the battle was took all the italians and crucified them.
