Document Summary
Week #1 readings: intro: ancient egyptians created 2d and 3d objects/images to function as a meaningful part of cults of gods and the dead, statues provided places where deities could manifest (the spirits engraved in the graves), representations of items/objects to the dead represented the fact that these items could be available to the dead. It was believed that a person was provided with important things that they might need in the after world or in death: very prized objects and expensive things were specially made for kings and high ranking elite officials. (lesser good looking and invaluable pieces were mostly made for lower class and illerate people), while the kings could hire top class artists to build them nice artwork and statues, the lower class had to rely on second rate talent, the artwork that is still remaining of the ancient egyptians allow us to understand the culture of the ancient egyptian society.
