Document Summary

Today, tomorrow: we continue section 1. 5, appendix d (logarithmic functions, inverse functions, trigonometry). Quiz 1 will open on owl this wednesday sept. 13 and will be due on sept. 20. The question will be on the exponential and logarithmic functions (1. 4, 1. 5). It is expected that you will take the quiz by yourself, in a reasonable amount of time, without getting assistance from anyone else. Natural logarithm: for real numbers x > 0, y ln x = r ! er = x (in other words: ln x is the number r such that er = x). Example: ln 1 = 0 because e0 = 1 (ln 1 is the number r such that er = 1). Logarithm with base a: loga x = r ! ar = x. E. g. log3 9 = 2 (because 32 = 9). ln x = loge x.
