Ofelia"s fantasy world though is a mirror of reality, and it is difficult for the viewer to distinguish between the two as the story progresses. This paper focuses on the sequence in which ofelia is first introduced to her new surroundings and tells a. Bedtime story to her unborn brother, and examines the stylistic techniques used to first suggest ofelia"s strategy of blurring distinctions between reality and fantasy. I argue that through the use of fluid camera movement that easily crosses boundaries between fantasy and reality, and seamless editing that makes those crossings even smoother, del toro signals to the viewer early on that.
