Autotrophs make food from sunlight; plants grab sunlight e. Wolf cannot consume an autotroph- needs to gain e from another animal like a beaver. Heterotrophs use the food to do work. What makes us hungry; mitochondria that live inside us--> formed a symbiotic relationship along time ago that demands us to constantly give it energy. Energy exists in different forms: chemical energy is the energy stored in chemical bonds. Animals are organized and need energy to maintain that organization to survive. Given the second law of thermodynamics (i. e. , that isolated systems must become more disordered over time), animals can only maintain their organization if they are not isolated and have e input from the outside world. Sea eurchand; algae is an autotroph; takes energy from algae and sucks it out. Using energy to maintain organization and create organization; when we were an egg, we had very little organization to us, but this slowly builds up as it grows and develops.
