Document Summary

Scaling is the study of how things change in size. Isometric scaling -> proportional change in x is a proportional change in y (linear relationship) y= ax. Log x vs. log y -> intercept does not go thru 0. The slope would come out close to 1 -> its a(cid:374) iso(cid:373)etri(cid:272) s(cid:272)ale a(cid:374)d you do(cid:374)"t ha(cid:448)e to use log (cid:271)e(cid:272)ause its linear. The equation for that line would be y=axb. In this case b would be less than 1 and greater than 0. There is a non-linear change in body size as it is increasing. The b is telling you about the shape of the curve and the a is telling you about the elevation of the curve. Your down sloping curve would be a straight line but it would have a negative slope-> a lot easier to work with than having the raw data. If your slope is greater than 1 -> disproportionally increasing.
