PPDAC- Scientific Framework
→Problem, Plan, Data, Analysis, Conclusion
Problem: deciding what you are researching
Population of Interest: collection of all individuals
Units: objects of interest eg. student
Sample: subunit of individual from data collection
Why sample? →convince, population too big, less time/cost, control
Variables: characteristic that varies from object to object (eg height cause each person has diff
height)
1. Response Variable: measures outcome of interest in a study (aka dependent variable)
eg. attractiveness
2. Explanatory Variable: explains diff/influence change in response variable (aka
independent variable) eg. heel height
Parameter: number that summarizes an attribute of population
• common characteristic of population
Research Goal
Descriptive: to describe things about a population eg. 80% of students in stats are biology
→put a value on characteristics of a population
Predictive: predictions for new individuals eg. predict 80% people next year will have this
characteristic
Causative: a variable causes a change in another
*a lot of studies don’t like to admit to use thing this cause there could be many factors that
can influence
