Document Summary

What kind of study design is illustrated: completely randomized design, 60 experimental communities and randomly assigned them, artificially constructed units no sampling really done. 3 treatments different levels of defoliation: different levels of explanatory variable, 1 factor, 3 treatments. Balanced designed equal number of replicates in each treatment: do not need balanced design to do anova. Only have on explanatory variables one-way anova: but there are many other anovas, factor = explanatory variable, treatment level or levels of explanatory variable. If it is a two way, treatments are a combination of the levels of the explanatory variables or factors. Y bar = mean: have 3 means. Hypothesis, conditions, test statistic, p value, significant value same as hypothesis tests: structure of these are different. Cant write it as = something, because we have multiple means associated with our treatments. Only thing we can say is that all the means are equal.
