Document Summary
Microarrays: "marked" dna complementary piece of dna to identify dna. Thousands/millions of dna "spots" on a slide representing millions of a particular probe on a slide labelled dna or cdna i. e. normal & cancer cells. An entire transcriptome can be assessed on a single chip. This allows for a means for a comparison of different gene expression. i. e. single nucleotide polymorphism screening (snp) Common snps in a genome can be assessed on a single chip. Accounts for a large portion of variation between individuals, and this method of identification can serve as important genetic markers: epigenetics on microarrays. Put samples of dna from two different cells and use antibodies to bind to methylated dna to identify, in those cells, which sequences and parts of the genome that are methylated. Genetic engineering: direct manipulation of an organism"s genome using biotechnology techniques. o.
