History of evolution: aristotle suggested nature follows an order and scala naturae (ladder) goes either up or down the ladder. Named humans homo sapiens: george louis leclerc compared the structures of different animals. He questioned why species have unnecessary bodily structures (wisdom teeth). Ex: why do pigs have toes that do not touch the ground. The fossils were not consistent at every layer, he concluded that species can extinct. Earth"s crust can wiped out many species at once.
