Electromagnetic energy is given off by the sun due to the fusion of hydrogen. The distance between the crests of the waves determines the type. Portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that humans can wee. Photons energy particles of light: act like particles in motion they have a fixed quantity of energy, the wavelength of light is inverse to the amount of energy it possesses. Light has no mass, but still interacts with matter. When light hits an o(cid:271)je(cid:272)t : might be reflected, transmitted, absorbed. To be used as a source of energy it must be absorbed. Molecules which are very efficient at absorbing photons: due to bonding arrangements of c atoms. Electrons are delocalized and are available to interact with a photon of light. Pigments differ in the wavelengths they absorb. A pigments colour depends on what wavelength is absorbs: colour is the light the pigment does not absorb. Light energy from the sun enters the biosphere through photosynthesis.
