1953: watson, crick and franklin: dna structure double helix. Franklin is the one who discovered the alpha helix but did not use protection during research and died at a young age (she was around like electromagnetic material) You must be alive to receive a nobel prize therefore franklin goes unnoticed. 1956: tjio & levan: 46 chromosomes in nucleus. Mitochondria are important for dna as to how to gain most energy for your genome. Phosphate bridges 3" c to 5" c from two different sugars. Adenine binds to thymine; guanine binds to cytosine. Two polynucleotide chains twist around each other in a right-handed way. If you move along a helix in the direction of your right hand"s thumb, and the helix turns in the direction of your right hand"s fingers, then it"s a right- handed helix. Picture the helix vertical; if the front strands move form the lower left to the upper right, then it is a right- handed helix.
