Document Summary

It exists in many forms such as heat, chemical, electrical and mechanical forms. All groups of energy can be grouped into two categories, kinetic (energy of motion) and potential (energy stored due to environment). Thermodynamics is the study of energy and its transformations. Biosphere is the collection of all living things. Energy flows from the sun (giant ball convert hydrogen into helium to release heat). If you can capture then you can sustain life. Photosynthetic organisms transfer light energy into energy that the rest of life can use. The low entropy molecules that photosynthetic molecules make are glucose, proteins, and nucleic acids. In most chemical reactions we can just increase the heat, but in biological reactions we can"t heat it up or it denatures the proteins. System is the object being studied, and surrounding is everything outside the system. Isolated system: doesn"t exchange matter or energy. Closed system: exchanges energy but not matter.
