Document Summary
Programmed cell death genes are found all over eukaryotes: mechanisms present waiting to be activated, as a way for cells to perform apoptosis during development. Also found in bacteria: in silico (on computer) methods used, bacterial plasmids can code for their own transfer, plasmid coded on toxin (red), antitoxin (blue) Antitoxin is degraded more quickly by protease (green) but is replenished. Cells that lose the plasmid are killed by toxin. Daughter cell created without the plasmid cannot make antitoxin and will quickly die. Toxin is very long lived run out of antitoxin before it runs out of toxin. Segmentation genes are the first genes to be expressed in the nuclei of drosophila zygotes. Maternal effect genes are first to be translated in the embryo: transcribed in the mothers. Reaper gene is under the control of hox genes and ecdysone (hormone gene that controls transition to adult) Not mutation: does not change the dna sequence.
