Biology 1001A Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Gradualism, Falsifiability, Antimicrobial Resistance
Document Summary
Evolution since its origin has been considered taboo, and not widely accepted. Descent with modification from a common ancestor. Populations have changed over many years, this is seen through different time periods (ie. ice age) Ecological time periods, or from generation to generation. The evolution of antibiotic resistance has been traced. All life is related through common ancestry, we can trace to our most primal ancestor. We inherited some of our similar traits, to archaea bacteria. Evolution relies on variation, as is allows for adaptable traits to exist. Over evolutionary time, adaptable traits become more present in the population after many generations. Selection generates adaption, and explains much evolutionary change (but not all). Selection is the only source of adaption, but not the only source of evolutionary change.
