Sexual reproduction and recombination is the most common mode of reproduction in animals as there is less of a risk than asexual reproducing. Traits almost never spread because they bene t a group, selection only works in the shop sighted and what is happening now, it ignored the long term effects. When the environment is changing and unpredictable, your offspring could experience a very different type of environment than you experiences, meaning that sexual reproduction is bene cial. It is bene cial because sexual reproduction is like buying multiple lottery numbers, you are enhancing your chances of having offspring that survive. Red queen and evolutionary change: it takes all the running you can do, to stay in the same place". A huge part of the environment is the other living species around you, including enemies, as all of these things are rapidly evolving. All species are locked in evolution arm race with other species, we evolved together.
