Whiptail lizards cannot have sex bc they"re all females. Every individual is a clone of its mother. Can have reproduction without sex, therefore no recombination. Sexual reproduction is associated with generating new combos of alleles. A huge source of genetic variation (note: mutation is the ultimate source of new alleles) Offsprings are genetically different from parental generation, due to sex. Each offspring is unique (except for identical twins & armadillos) In humans, reproduction is associated with sex (recomb. ). In bacteria, individuals reproduce by binary fusion: no sex involved, asexual, identical to mother cell. Many things reproduce w/o ever having sex, whether you are uni or multi- cellular. Some organisms can have sex without reproduction (ex: bacteria: a bacteria cell injects plasmid into the other, the other cell now has the genetic info, but they"re not reproducing. Some organisms reproduce both sexually & asexually depending on how stressful the environment is. Every individual is either male or female, aka dioecious.
