Document Summary

Connect: mitosis to evolution; everything back to evolution. Evolution can only happen because of genetic variation. A genome is all of the dna sequence in one copy of an organism"s chromosomes. All living cells on earth use dna as their genetic material. Some viruses use rna, but we just want to talk about dna. Nucleus: one copy of the nuclear dna nuclear genome. Mitochondria have their own dna, they have circular dna. Chloroplasts have their own dna, also circular dna. All cells are not destined to divide anytime soon. Somatic cells are not destined to divide anytime soon, nerve cells in particular. Blood cells, skin cells, and sperm cells will divide rapidly. Cells might be actively cycling, might be dormant, might be programmed to die. Might be job of cell to die. Cells that have suffered tremendous dna damages (or really any damage) Phloem cells are dead those cells function as skeletons.
