Cells from both can induce a second axis (another notochord) when transplanted to other areas of the gastrula (autonomous, committed and determined) Both form mesoderm as they move from anterior posterior. Both make dorsal mesoderm first, then this dorsal mesoderm induces endoderm to become other types of mesoderm. What type of mesoderm formed depends on morphogen gradients. Experiment: subject isolated presumptive ectoderm cells from animal cap to different concentrations of activin: None: stays ectoderm low: ventral mesoderm (blood) Before fertilization: mts random (no polarilty), disheveled inactive in most vegetal area. After fertilization: mts are parallel in vegetal cytoplasm, dsh active organized by mt"s from the centriole from the sperm. Mt motor protein is kinesin (+ end directed, polymerizes away from centriole) Polymerize down gravity away from sep separate yolky cytoplasm and cortical cytoplasm and gives directional info for cortical rotation to occur (still 1 cell stage) Cortical rotation exposes the grey cresent where gastrulation begins.
