Horizontal transfer of chloroplasts across the eukaryotic tree. Add a predator, a non-photosynthetic eukaryote which gobbled up the photosynthetic one. Chloroplast has an extra membrane from the eukaryote. Most deadly parasite on earth has a secondary chloroplast. Other parasites also have a secondary chloroplast. A set of genetic instructions within a biological compartment. 2 distinct genomes in humans, jellyfish, mushrooms. Sushi 15, 5 plants, 3 genomes each. Endosymbiotic gene transfer and loss has gone to completion. Also one genome in trichomonas and giardia. A green alga that can no longer perform photosynthesis. Gets energy from bringing things in from its environment. Still has chloroplasts used as starch, food packs. Perform crucial functions apart from energy production. There was a green alga and it was engulfed by a non-photosynthetic eukaryote.
