Asgard archaea illuminate the origin of eukaryotic cellular complexity. Mosaics of combining different genes and genomes. A set of genetic instructions within a biological compartment. Genome size: is the length of one set of those instructions within that genetic compartment. Two different genetic compartments: within those compartments we have a genome in both. Left: have a set of genetic instructions in red the instructions are repeated: 6 copies of those instructions within that compartment, polyploidy. Right: set of instructions but the instruction booklet is distributed over 6 different chromosomes. Genome size: left size is one time around the circle, right have to add up all of the circles to get one set. 1 base pair: a-t, would be a very small genome. 1000000 base pairs million base pairs (mb) 1,000,000,000 base pairs billion base pairs (gb: nucleotide single stranded, base pair double stranded. Nucleotides single stranded pieces of dna t rna: single stranded, and 70 nucleotides in length.
