Biology 2382B Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Transferrin Receptor, Ldl Receptor, Extracellular Fluid
Document Summary
Cell bio lecture 6 receptor mediated endocytosis. Recap: we are going to focus on how we get from the outside to the inside, maybe we want to get something from the outside to the late endosome or the lysosome. Phagocytosis pinocytosis: receptor-mediated endocytosis: a method of selective internalization of specific extracellular molecules( ligands) Phagocytosis : i. e. a macrophage is a type of immune cell which can recognize a type of bacteria, and engulf then ingest it: not particularly specific, it just engulfs something foreign and tries to get. Small little indentations that occur on plasma membrane, which will eventually bud off and encapsulate something (extracellular fluid) on the plasma membrane to bring to the inside: not all cells do pinocytosis. If we want to bring something specific into the cell, that will be through receptor mediated endocytosis. Ldl: transferrin, many other types of proteins that also do this, like insulin and certain glycoproteins.
