Latin american peasants ii - painter & smith. Michael painter looks at changing forms of peasant communities and certain peasant. Like lesser looks at certain kinds of reciprocal behaviour. How they have meaning in changing relations. Gavin smith did many years of research with this community in peru where he"s looked at peasant community in relation to hacienda. Ppl who go to huasingo, go to mines etc. Looked at confederations of households - ppl in lima, back in the communities. If you look just at livelihoods though you can"t understand them. He posits that peasant community not based on shared way of life, similar experiences and homogeneity that red eld writes about. In fact ppl have very dif experiences in these communities. We might have to rede ne what we mean by community, does not mean similar experiences but rather being invested in and engaged in same argument, battle.
