Recall that bone is a living tissue: this is why it record information about your life. Infectious diseases: dietary deficiencies, activity patterns, mobility, sex, age at death. Osteoblasts; bone builders: deposit unmineralized (organic) bone called osteoid, controls subsequent mineralization of that osteoid so tissue can turn into mature bone tissue. Osteocytes; bone messengers: initially osteoblasts which become trapped in matrix they deposited, housed in space called a lacunae and communicate via canaliculi (spindles) Osteoclasts; bone destroyers (absorbers: used to take away bone, multinucleated, work to seal off an are of bone, by doing so, once activated by signals from osteocytes, they then produce an acidic environment that dissolves hydroxyapatite.
