Document Summary
There are two ways we can study natural phenomena scientifically: looking at the relationships among things at the same time. A synchronic study: tracking the same entity at different times or through time. In human growth and development studies, the former would be referred to as a cross- sectional study while the latter would be referred to as a longitudinal study. The extinct chinese miocene ape lufengpithecus lufengensis which was far more sexually dimorphic than any extant primate. The extinct giant lemurs of madagascar: the morphology of many suggests modes of locomotion unlike any extant primate. Among humans and other hominins determinations of where a specimen is male or female can be aided by sexually dimorphic traits. Women"s foreheads tend to be more vertical while men have foreheads that have a bulge directly over the brow bone due to larger underlying frontal sinuses and then a slope towards the top of the head.
