Microglia is an entirely different cell then macro. Macroglia cells are derived from common precursor cell that gives rise to neurons and macroglia cells. Macroglia is part of cns that arises from the neural tube. This is different then micro which have their origin in the yolk sac that invade into the fetal brain early in fetal development (1st trimester) Mesencyma cells invade the cns and there they have specific function. Microglia cells become macrophages immune cells of the brain. The brain is separated fro the blood by the blood brain barrier which is impermeable for all non lipophilic substances, t cells, pathogens, and other parts of immune response of body. Cns has own immune system and its done by microglia cells. Have processes, constantly survey environment for cytokines and other things that indicate a neuro inflammatory process or dying neurons.
