Is a secondary lymphoid organ: area where programmed mature t cells & b cells will go to monitor blood for infection & respond to immune challenges. T and b cells undergo clonal expansion here. Plasma cells will be produced by b cells in the spleen, and they will release antibodies. Supporting structures: dict capsule, trabeculae extensions of the capsule into the parenchyma. Contain trabecular arteries and veins (whereas the lymph nodes don"t!: reticular fibres. Parenchyma held together by reticular fibres: white pulp mostly lymphocytes. Is a splenic nodule: red pulp mostly blood eosinophilic.
