Document Summary

Pectoral muscles and axilla: name, identify & describe the 4 muscles attached to anterior thoracic wall in pectoral region (which connect ul to rib cage), including their bony attachments, actions & innervation. Identify & describe the boundaries & contents of the axilla, specifically the axillary artery & its branches. 2 heads- sternocostal head, clavicle head (fibers originate on clavicle) Sternocostal fibers contract- brings humerus closer to sternum (adduct) Medial rotation- take humerus laterally, anterior surface will move more lateral, stretching more fibers, medial rotation causes contraction of pectoralis major. Front of humerus toward clavicle causes flexion with help from deltoid. Clavicular head: anterior surface of medial half of clavicle. Junction of rib 1 and its costal cartilage. Groove on inferior surface of middle third of clavicle. Between the lateral wall of upper thorax and upper limb. Provides passageway for blood vessels and nerves. Provides blood to upper limb and part of thoracic wall.
