Binary decisions/bits, the number of parallel judgments you can make about an item, (3 bits is 8, 2x2x2) Originally, experimental psych was uni ed with common methodology. Fragmentation occurred as a result of disagreement on the scope of psychology as well as the appropriate methodology: if you can"t agree on how to arrive at info, you aren"t in good shape. Structuralism (contents), functionalism(why you do things), behaviourism (maping of environmental events and repossess of an organism), cognitive psychology (what people are thinking about, internal manipulations between external environmental behaviour) Cog scientists are concerned (broadly) with the working of the human mind. While cognitive psychology is a sub-discipline with psychology, cognitive science draws on mathematics, robotics, linguistics, computer science, and psych among others. It"s not clear if that"s still true. Traditionally, cognitive scientists consider the mind to be an information processor.
