Creation myths: emergence myths- emerging from somewhere else and arriving on earth, pueblo emergences- traveled through 4 worlds before the 5th (earth/mist, aranki emergences- rise from foam of sea. They are from the coastal region of nova scotia: earth diver myths, iroquois diver- pregnant woman fell from sky, ducks wings break her fall, and muskrats build dirt bed on a giant turtle for her and her baby. Begins with someone of something that comes down and becomes the first person: cherokee diver- water beetle down to earth, it picks up mud then piles it in places: thus grand. Father buzzard comes down and sees the mud is solid/safe. Every time he flaps up= mountains are made. As they flap down= valleys are made: hoopa creation story, yuma spirit knows people are coming and teaches them how to live properly. Key element- being has to teach people the right way to live on earth.
