Included in this definition is the victimization occurring for victims within the criminal justice system: encompasses many aspects of harm, as well as serious aspects of victimization. Types of victims: victims- individuals who experience loss, injury, or hardship for any reason, crime victims-above as result of an illegal act, direct/primary victims- experience criminal act and its consequences first hand. Indirect/secondary victims- family and those who suffer emotionally or financially but are not immediately involved. In the past, victims would simply give a written statement and appear to court to testify: some people would assume that if a suspect was tried and convicted, then the victim would be happy. Putting yourself into a situation where something may happen (making a poor choice) The challenged of objectivity: victimological research must tell the whole truth, regardless of who is disappointed or insulted, three types of biases undermine the ability of any social scientist to achieve objectivity.
