Psycholinguisics: interdisciplinary ield that examines how people use language to communicate ideas. Neurolinguisics: discipline regarding how the brain processes language. Grammar: in psycholinguisics, grammar refers to a both morphology and syntax, examining both word structure and sentence structure. Syntax: subset of grammar; rules that govern how words are combined to make sentences. Morphology: study of morphemes; examines how words are created through the combinaion of morphemes. Phoneme: basic unit of spoken language; english has about 40 phonemes. Phonology: the sound of a person"s speech; acquiring a second language during childhood will make it easier to pronounce words similar to naive speakers than when learning a language later on in life. Pragmaics: in language, the social rules and world knowledge that allows speakers to successfully communicate messages to other people (ex. social cues, body language, etc. )
