Anticommunist/free market ideology as a control mechanism. Argues that critical school is highly normative. Problem with the critical school is that while the arguments appear logical and intuitive, there is a lack of rigorous empirical verification. The tactic by the critical school is to point out the flaws in democracy, but seldom do they put the theory to the test. While there are indeed routines and news beats and even frames, this does not necessarily ,mean that the media uphold the capitalist system. One can use a frame or a beat to criticize just as easily from the right or from the left. There are many liberal-pluralists who are un-interested in media bias. For them the focus is on media effects.
