ESCI 1100 Lecture 1: 66-141 lecture 1
Document Summary
We"re moving beyond descriptive science (how does this stuff work) Doesn"t matter how you look at our environment, but it is very complex. Ex) global warming: it"s the question of how we"re effecting or changing our environment. We are nowhere near learning how to sustain resources. We"re approaching earth differently in accordance to ecological footprints/carrying capacity. Environmental science- an inter/multidisciplinary study of human relationships with earth and other organisms. We want to conserve or preserve what we have. We"re looking at things on a system basis. We humans have no grasp of time, in geological contents. Pick an element of the environment and pick what information you need on that topic to explore it. The challenge in understanding an environmental system is not a static thing. Tipping point is pushing a system too far that it can"t recover itself. Methane hydras- methane and water, trapped in ice.
