Assigning participants to experimental control groups/conditions by random assignment minimizes pre-existing differences between the two groups. Participants are kept unaware of important aspects of the experiment. Or research assistants are kept unaware of which group a participant belongs to. Blind studies are especially useful in researching the effects of medications on various psychological and cognitive symptoms(although placebo effects are seen) In the case of drug research, research participants and experimenters assistants are unaware of which participants had the real treatment and which patients had the placebo treatment (5) data collection. Rote learning: repeat a word over and over again. Method of loci: thinking about a word and placing it in a familiar situation. Narrative chaining: putting a word in a story. Hypothesis: members using the loci method will remember more words than the rote learning method. (6) data analysis. Inferential statistics (comparing average scores with the mean) Mode: the most frequently occurring score in a distribution.
