In the past, rape was defined as (history): Section 271: sexual assault: somebody touches you in a sexual way on purpose, directly or indirectly, without your consent. Section 272: sexual assault with a weapon, threats to a third party or causing. Section 153. 1: sexual exploitation of person with a disability. Cannot be obtained if the complainant is drunk, unconscious, shows signs of disagreement or changes his or her mind: silence is not consent. Does not relate to complainant"s past sexual history. 39% of canadian women report being sexually assaulted by a man since the age of 16. 8% of women are sexually assaulted by a current or former spouse. Women with disabilities are more than 4x more likely to be sexually assaulted. Approximately one in six boys is sexually abused before the age of 16. 19% of men experience unwilling sexual activity (coercion-to-sexual assault) Immediate crisis experience: heightened level of distress. Depression: victims are 9x more likely to attempt suicide.
