Her office hours are 6-7pm in nf305 or by appointment. We will be looking at everything from art to tools through an interdisciplinary approach: as material culture is multifaceted, we will use information and techniques from archaeology, literature and history as examples. We will be taking a theoretical approach to understand material culture. It acts as a basis for interpretation: also exploring relationship between material forms and people by drawing on a vast array of objects. (eg. egypt, modern south east asia, post war usa) it is cross cultural. And what are the ethical concerns behind acquisition. We will look at materiality, the cultural meaning of objects and the ethics of objects. Develop skill of object interpretation and see objects, very visual class: know how to express your views of an object. Understand the historic, social and physical context of objects.
