Document Summary

A fundamental way of better interacting with other people and our material objects and goods. Exchanges can be engaged with in a number of different ways; through the eyes of the anthropoligst and the economist. People work autonomously, and are transacting thing with each other that are of value or utility. Economist assume that people are rational maximisers (they behave in logical, maximised way to maximise material gain: people assume that people have infinite needs and wants but with limited means. They allocate money to pay for wants and needs, and actors try to maximise what they have in exchanges. People do not show unlimited wants in their transactions and do not act logically. They are a rational maximiser to allow them to have better relationships and time for themselves (of free time and satisfaction) Exchange is about getting what we want but isn"t always about stuff, but instead about social relationships: the relationships in which the exchange are embedded.
