Study of books as historical, cultural and material artifacts. Listing books that cover a particular argument. Its basic function is to list all titles of books that fall within specified parameters; geographic, linguistic, chronological, thematic or some combination thereof. The study of the historical and cultural context in which books came to be produced. Practice of reconstructing the physical processes by which printed books came to be produced. Combined with the knowledge of the history of printing. Attempts to determine the printing history of books by examining their physical features. Being concerned with books as material objects but unlike analytical bibliography having the single goal of describing the physical structure of books in a clear, concise way. Any of the textual elements that surround the main body of a printed book, including title pages, half titles, advertisement leaves, prefaces, errata slips, blurbs, dedications, epigraphs, annotations, appendices, and indices.
