Invented printing press, movable type, and printing ink. Invention of printing press involved 3 diff inventions: So he was good at making movable type & printing ink. Put him in a good position to invent these 3 things. Without these 3 things, we can"t have printed books. Unstable & weak, not as strong as metal. Platen has limited size b/c of wood. Has to be as big as the bed. Individual letters (pieces of type) that can be moved around. 3d representations of letters of the alphabet reversed left to right. So when you print it, it is a positive impression that we can read. Alloy (mixture) of lead, antimony, and tin. Important b/c need to have type that can wear well. There is lots of pressure exerted by the press. Need type to be really strong & have low melting point. Needs to be the same size when its liquid and solid.
